MİLGEM Corvette Project Promotion and Signature Ceremony of MILGEM Combat System (May 23rd, 2007)

Regarding the MILGEM Corvette Project, promotion of the activities realized so far regarding design, construction and integration of the Prototype Ship and contract signature of MILGEM Combat Systems between SSM and ASELSAN-HAVELSAN Partnership were realized on 23 May 2007 between 13:30-15:00 at MİLGEM Exhibition Area in IDEF 2007 International Defence Industry Fair.

In scope of the MILGEM Project that consists the the acquisition of Patrol and Anti-Submarine Warfare Ships through local design, construction and integration in order to meet the reconnaissance, surveillance, target identification, early warning, defence of base and harbours, anti submarine warfare, surface to surface and surface to air warfare, amfibic operation and patrol requirements of Turkish Naval Forces Command, the first ship TCG Heybeliada will be designed, constructed and integrated by İstanbul Naval Shipyard as the Prototype. Turkish Naval Command is responsible for the performance and time schedule of the Prototype, while SSM is responsible for project management, material/equipment and service procurement activities.

The project, in which the additional 11 ships are planned to be constructed in either İstanbul Naval Shipyard or Turkish private shipyards, aims to decrease the dependancy on foreign resources regarding the system integration for vessel design and hull construction, integrate the capabilities existing in naval and private shipyards and transfer the technology and know-how to the private shipyards.

Regarding the construction and outfitting of TCG Heybeliada, participation of local industry at the maximum level is also aimed. In this respect, the activities conducted by the
